Vanadine Payne-Atkins' Obituary
Vanadine Payne-Atkins, age 77, of Lakeland, FL, died Saturday,
April 23, 2016, at home. She was a member of the St. James AME Church of Bartow,
FL.
She was an active member and effective fundraiser of the Union Academy High School Alumni Association where she raised money so that scholarships could be awarded to deserving high school graduates. Van, as she was affectionately called, was aggressive and zealous as she solicited funds from family and friends all over the United States. Biannually, she raised money so that scholarships could be awarded in her deceased husband's name who attended Union Academy in Bartow, a former segregated African American school.
She is survived by o ne brother: Delano Payne, Elizabeth, NJ; her husband, Henry James Atkins preceded her in death.
Service will be held in Rochester, NY on May 7, 2016. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her name to Union Academy High School Alumni Association, P. O. Box 564, Bartow, FL. D.M Funeral home is in charge. Interested persons may contact them at 585-247-0430.
Arrangements are being handled by Gause Funeral Home, 625 S. Holland Parkway, Bartow, FL.
