Mamie Ella Jones Drummond, age 80, of Bartow, FL, died Thursday, December 10, 2015, at home. She was born October 19, 1935 in Miccosukee, Florida.

She was the daughter of the late Edward Jones and the late Gertrude Jones. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gertrude and Mary; and brothers, Willie, Wilson, Wallace and Walter. She is survived by two daughters: Renata Drummond Ward, Miami, FL; Greta Drummond Noble, Balston, NY; one son: Darrell J. Drummond , Fort Pierce, FL; a sister, Madeline Wynn and her children; seven grandchildren; one great grand child; cousin Verdell Taylor, caregiver; and countless nieces, nephews; and friends.

She matriculated within the local school system in Leon County and graduated from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee in 1953.  Upon graduation, she continued her studies at Florida A&M College.  In 1956 she married Van Drummond and from that union three children were born; Renata (Keith) Ward, Darrell (Nadine) Drummond and Greta (Eric) Noble.  Years later, she enrolled in Edward Waters College, from which she graduated in 1971.

She worked for Polk County as a senior services case manager from 1972 until retirement in 1998.  After retirement, she worked as a corrections officer with the Polk County Sheriff's Office for three years.  She was a long term, faithful member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Bartow and served on various boards and organizations.

Arrangements are being handled by Gause Funeral Home, 625 S. Holland Parkway, Bartow, FL where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, December 18, 2015.

Funeral service will be at St. James AME Church at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 19, 2015.
